With some help and a win today, Team South Dakota 14U will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday in Sioux Falls with a 2-1 win over the Nashville Jr. Predators.
Nashville would score the lone first period goal and would lead until around the midway point of the second period before Aniston Murray would tie the game at 1-1 and in the final minute of the second, Taylor Sorben would score on the power play and hold as the game winning goal with a 2-1 final score. It’s the only win of pool play for Team SD, but with a little bit of help and the shootout loss on Thursday, South Dakota finished with four points in the standings and finished in fourth to claim one of the eight quarterfinal spots. Ava Lavinger, the lone Oahe Capital representative on this year’s team is now three wins over the next two days from a National Championship.
Team South Dakota will face Team North Dakota in the quarterfinals at 12:00 on Saturday in Sioux Falls. North Dakota is 3-0 with two shutout wins. If South Dakota wins the border battle, they will play at either 7:00 or 7:15 in the semifinals later in the night.
