The Pierre Governor tennis team would travel west to Rapid City over Friday and Saturday and would finish 1-2 on the weekend beating Spearfish on Saturday.
The Governors would go 0-2 on Friday a 9-0 loss to Rapid City Stevens and a 5-4 loss to Rapid City Central. In the Central match, Jacob Leiferman in singles flight three, Weston Northrup in flight four and Levi Hight in singles flight six all would pick up wins for the team while Lucas Hight and Leiferman would win in doubles flight one for the fourth Governor victory of the dual. Four of the five losses were within three games as the Govs nearly picked up a team win.
But on Saturday, the Governors would pick up a 5-4 win over Spearfish as Lucas Hight in flight one, Leiferman and Northrup would win in singles matches and the Lucas Hight and Leiferman would pick up a second win on the weekend in doubles flight one and Levi Hight and Marty Blanchette in doubles three would also pick up a win to secure the first victory of the season for the Govs.
The Governors won’t compete again until Saturday, April 6 when they travel to Huron for a quadrangular.
