The Potter County Battlers used experience and depth to their advantage Friday night in Gettysburg, as the Lady Battlers won 47-39 over Sully Buttes, while the Battler boys downed the Chargers 54-43 in front of a full house.
The Lady Battlers used the inside shooting of Kadyn Cronin who finished with 13 points, and the outside shooting of Zoe Meinke who finished with 15, all from behind the arc to keep the Chargers at bay. The Chargers led 9-8 after one, and tied it at 31 apiece at the end of three quarters. Sully Buttes couldn’t find offensive rhythm against the Lady Battlers, with Stevie Wittler the lone player in double figures scoring 17 while Addyson Chicoine and Payge Bakker each added seven points for the 7-8 Chargers. Potter County ups its record to 7-7 on the season.
Meanwhile the Battlers boys basketball team used stifling defense, and physical play to knock the Chargers down and out. The Battlers led 11-2 after one quarter, 24-15 at the half, and 40-29 after three. The Chargers did pull to within five and seven points a few moments in the second half, but the Battlers came roaring back and put Sully Buttes away. Eli Mercer was top scorer for Sully Buttes with 15, while Logan Severson and Wesley Wittler contributed 12 points. The Battlers were led by Ryder Falkenhagen with 13 while three players scored 12 points each. The Chargers fall to 5-8 on the season and Potter County ups its mark to 9-6.
