PIERRE, (KCCR) — Not only did the recent catch of record-breaking walleyes in Lake Oahe bring more anglers to South Dakota’s largest lake, it brought a lot of questions to Game, Fish and Parks staff. Fisheries Program Administrator Jake Davis says they had a good idea big fish were in the big water through spawning egg collection…
In addition to big walleyes, Davis says officials are seeing more walleyes…
Davis says the public is also asking G-F and P staff how old these record fish could be. He says that’s a difficult question to answer…
Davis cautioned members of the Game, Fish and Parks Commission that the aging of fish is variable and inexact and that there is no good way to truly know how old large fish are.
