Both the Pierre Governor boys and girls basketball teams would drop its opening game of the season on Friday but come back for a win on Saturday.
The Governor girls had to deal with a hot shooting Stevens Raiders on Friday night with the Govs shooting cold in a 63-35 loss. Taailyah Porter would score 30 points to lead the Raiders in the win. Ryann Barry would have 12 points for the Govs and Reese Terwilliger had nine in the loss.
Then on Saturday, the Govs were able to hold off Rapid City Central with a 51-39 win to pick up the first win of the season. Terwilliger would have 24 points which included 18 coming in the second half for the Govs. Barry would add another nine as the two seniors were the top two scorers in each game to begin the season.
On the boys side of things, the Governors would drop a low scoring game on Friday night 44-39 to Stevens. Cade Kaiser would lead the way with 10 points for the Govs while Luke Olson and Jett Zabel each had eight. Minkah Hawley and Dayler Segrist each had 13 for the Raiders.
On Saturday the Govs would pick up a 53-43 win over Central as Dawon Getz and Zabel would each score a team high 16 points while Olson also hit the double figure mark with 12. Zabel completed a double-double with 12 rebounds on top of the 16 points.
Both teams are 1-1 and will face Sturgis and Spearfish on Friday and Saturday this weekend. The boys will be at home and the girls on the road. Both boys games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
