Morris Hofer and the Northwestern Red Raiders are looking for back-to-back NAIA National Championships as the undefeated Red Raiders were given the number one seed on Sunday for the playoffs.
Northwestern is 11-0 on the year, one of three teams without a loss to reach the playoffs beating every Great Plains Athletic Conference team on top of beating FCS opponent Drake 27-24 in overtime. The defending National Champion Red Raiders have won 24 straight games and have not loss since its opening game loss to Morningside in 2022.
Hofer, who is an Onida native and Sully Buttes standout, is a senior and team captain on this year’s squad. The defensive end has been a force racking up 26 total tackles, five for loss, on top of two sacks in 10 games played. Hofer has also picked off two passes and recovered a fumble. In his fifth year, Hofer needs just one more sack for 10 in his career and eight more tackles for a total of 100.
The Red Raiders have the first week off as only four teams will play in the first round which will pair the field down to the final 16. While the top 12 seeds are already established, the full bracket won’t be released until the final four teams are determined on Saturday.
