The Pierre Governor girls soccer team would drop a 5-1 decision in the quarterfinals in Mitchell as the Governors conclude the season at 9-5-1.
Mitchell would score the first two goals of the game leading 2-0 at halftime as Mia Mullenmeister would score the first goal on a long through ball, but then had a penalty kick to make it 2-0 after a foul was committed by the Governors inside the goal box. In the second half, a loose ball would come out to Grace Engbrencht and her high shot would land over the top of the goalkeeper and under the crossbar to make it 2-1 within the first two minutes of the second half. However, the Kernels would answer less than a minute later and take a 3-1 lead, driving the wind out of the sails of the Governors and halting the momentum. The Kernels would add another two goals before the end of the match and advance to the semifinals on Tuesday.
For the Governors, just two seniors will graduate. Ryann Barry and Brianna Sargent’s soccer careers will come to an end.
