PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Hughes County Commission is meeting tonight because of the Labor Day holiday. Commissioners have seven-item agenda of all new business and a three-item consent calendar to consider. A public hearing is set for 5:30 pm for the provisional 2024 county budget. Commissioners will consider two planning and zoning items. One is for work in a county right-of-way in northwest Hughes County in the Spring Creek area. The second is first reading of a plat of lots in the Maher Subdivision. The Commission will consider contracts with the state Office of Emergency Management and medical service for the Hughes County Jail. Sheriff Patrick Callahan will present personnel items to the Commission from the Sheriff’s Office and the jail. Commissioners will also consider selecting group term life insurance, hold a discussion the county budget and hear reports from liaisons and the County Manager.
