It feels like the time would never get here, but the Pierre Governor baseball team is poised to begin the season today against the Mitchell Kernels.
The Governors and Kernels are both set to start the season after dealing with cancellation after cancellation as Pierre is four games in the hole before its first games. However, the two teams have found a better day and time to play as they have a 1:00 matinee to begin the doubleheader to provide some warmer temperatures as well avoid missing any school. Mitchell is coming off an 18-8 season, was last year’s state runner up and return plenty of faces for the 2023 season. Pierre swept Mitchell at home to close the regular season last year.
Coverage of today’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin ta 12:45 with first pitch at 1:00 and the second game to follow. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
