As the regular season and SoDak 16 matchups have concluded for AA basketball, both Pierre Governor teams will head to the state tournament on their respective weekends. Also with the season ending, four Governors have been recognized as All-Conference members.
For the Governor girls, Remington Price and Reese Terwilliger were selected as All-ESD members while Lincoln Kienholz and Jackson Edman receive the honor on the boys side. Price and Terwilliger led the Governors to the share of the ESD title going 7-1 along with the Brandon Valley Lynx. Price, a senior, set the all time career mark for made threes earlier in the season and has averaged 13.6 points per game, the team high while starting all 20 games for the Govs. Terwilliger averaged 12.1 points a game for Pierre, but also pulled own 6.7 rebounds a game to lead the team. The Governors finished 17-3 and are the second seed into the AA state tournament starting on Thursday.
For the Governor boys, Kienholz led the team in scoring averaging 18.5 points per game while also shooting 50% from the field. Kienholz has climbed the all-time scoring record in South Dakota basketball this season as he sits with some of the greats all-time. Edman nearly averaged a double-double per game scoring 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. The Governor big man also had 25 blocks playing in all 20 games of the year. Pierre finished with a 13-7 record and are playing its best basketball heading into the state tournament as the six seed starting next week Thursday in Rapid City.
