Strong low post play and a fast tempo, the Pierre Governor boys basketball team came away with a 64-49 victory over O’Gorman in front of a packed T.F. Riggs gym Saturday afternoon. The Governors led 28-24 at the half, and outscored the Knights 36-25 in the second half. O’Gorman was reduced to fouling late in the game, and Pierre finished it off by going 15 of 20 from the free throw line.
Senior Jackson Edman picked up 18 points in the low post and at the line, while Lincoln Kienholz contributed 13 for the 14-7 Govs. In all, Pierre had four players in double figures, with Benjamin Heisler with 11, and Breckin Krueger adding ten.
O’Gorman was led by Radley Mauney, ending the afternoon with 18 points, while Zander Benz added 15 points for 7-14 O’Gorman. Matthew Eng, who lit up Pierre for 29 points at the end of January, was held to 10, with no made three point shots.
Pierre will now head into the boys state tournament at Summit Arena at the Monument in Rapid
City. Pierre will play the last game of the night.
