The Pierre Governor football team had little problems with the Mitchell Kernels on Saturday as the Govs would win 50-6 and improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Govs went up 43-0 at the end of the first half as the Govs were able to score off two Mitchell turnovers as Trey Lewis would pick off a pass and Jason Maciejczak would recover a fumble as the Kernels had moved inside the five yard line. Lincoln Kienholz would throw for 375 yards and six touchdowns as Jackson Edman caught three passes, all for touchdowns and Jack Merkwan, Cade Kaiser and Jett Zabel all had touchdown catches. Merkwan finished with 213 yards receiving on five catches. Elijah Boutchee had a 66 yard rushing touchdown in the second half for the Governors. Six different Governors recorded at least two catches on the night as Pierre had enacted the running clock in all three games so far this season.
Pierre will face the 3-0 Yankton Bucks Friday on homecoming night. Coverage will start at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
