Pierre Post 8 couldn’t get the timely hits on Friday in either of the two games, dropping two 6-4 decisions to both Minot and Renner.
The Minot Vistas took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added to it before Pierre pulled within one 3-2. Grayson Hunsley grounded into a double play scoring a runner before a two out error allowed the second run to score. Jonny Lyons doubled in a run in the bottom of the third to make it 6-3, but the Eights made too many base running mistakes and fell just short of a comeback against the Vistas. George Stalley took the loss on the mound giving up nine hits, six runs, five earned, three walks and four strikeouts. Jack Merkwan retired all six men he faced in the sixth and seventh innings.
In game two, Pierre scored four runs in the bottom of the second to control the game at 4-1 as Jett Zabel had a bases loaded walk, Hunsley had a sacrifice fly, Stalley singled and Matt Hanson grounded out to pick up the four runs. However, it was all the Eights could score as Renner a run in the third, two in the third and fourth innings for the win. Bennett Dean went the distance on the rubber picking up the loss, but struck out 11 batters without allowing a walk on 98 pitches, 71 for strikes.
