The Pierre Governors will both have the opportunity to qualify for the state tournament this weekend as both teams will travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Jefferson Cavaliers on Friday and Saturday.
Both teams played the Cavaliers last week Tuesday and the phrase both teams are aware of is “it’s hard to beat a good team twice.” The Governor girls are on the winning side of the first matchup, 43-40 and will have to beat the good team twice. Pierre finished the season winning four in a row and seven of the last eight games to get back to .500. Jefferson on the other side, has lost five of the last eight games including the late loss at home to the Governors. Pierre looks to ride the momentum into a win on Friday.
The Pierre boys are on the other side of the phrase on Saturday. The Governors lost to Jefferson by 10 last week. However, the Govs were able to pull an 18 point deficit down to just seven in the fourth quarter as Pierre believes they didn’t play their best game by far. The Cavaliers have won six of eight to close the season.
Tipoff is at 7:00 on Friday for the girls game and then at 3:00 on Saturday for the boys game. Due to scheduling conflicts and prior commitments to the girls state hockey tournament the games will not be on KCCR.
