It was not how the Pierre Governors were hoping to start 2022. The breaks didn’t fall their way as the Lincoln Patriots rolled to a 74-51 win over Pierre.
It’s the first loss of the season for the Governors and while Pierre had their opportunities in the first half, the Patriots led the entire way. Pierre was down 30-28 but the Patriots finished the second quarter on an 8-0 and led 38-28 at the half and extended the lead to 12 at the end of the third quarter. Five players for the Patriots were in double figures as Elijah Olson came off the bench for the team high 17 points. He hit five threes in the game including four in the second half. Seven footer, JT Rock was held to just four points in the first half but finished with 12 on the night. Lincoln Kienholz had the game high as he finished with 27 on the night along with nine rebounds as he was the only player in double figures for the Govs.
Pierre will need to regroup and be ready for another Sioux Falls school, this time on the road on Saturday as they face the Washington Warriors. Tipoff of the varsity game is scheduled for 3:00.
