MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University has been awarded a Community Innovation Grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation. The 12-thousand dollar award will fund laptops to use while enrolled in the Learn and Earn program rolling out at Capital City Campus this fall. D-W-U is one of 14 applications that secured funding from 63 total applications. Ginger Niemann with the Community Foundation says the Learn and Earn program will be a win-win for both employers and people who welcome relevant on-site training and education. The Learn and Earn Program is a partnership with Dakota Wesleyan, the Pierre Economic Development Corporation, Capital City Campus, Bank West and others to allow students to experience a hands-on, real world simulation of the work place. The program offers a paid internship two days a week after the first four months of the 16-month program. Learn and Earn offers students a defined path to professional credentials or an associate or bachelor’s degree.
