This weekend, a full tournament full of walleye fishermen will gather for the 47th Annual South Dakota Governors Cup. It’s the longest running walleye tournament known to exist.
Registration is closed for the event because they have filled all spots for the 2021 tournament which begins on July 17 and runs through July 18. Tyson Keller and Max Hjelm have the won the tournament the past two years and will be looking for a three-peat. It would also be their fourth title overall.
The tournament field will be divided into flights according to the number of contestants. Each boat in each flight will go out single file, 15-20 seconds apart. Fishing is permitted on portions of Lake Oahe beginning at the Oahe Dam extending North to Bush’s Landing. The Tournament begins on Saturday July 17 and runs through July 18.
