PHILIP — A west central South Dakota movie theater is continuing its effort to replace its damaged projector. The Gem Theater in Phillip lost the use of its lone projector after a series of power outages during a March snow storm caused a power surge which damaged the projector. The theater has advertisers whose ads normally run before a movie. General Manager Amy Moses says those sponsors are still getting exposure…
Selling concessions has been the only way the family-owned theater has been able to stay open but even that is not enough…
Co-owner and mother to Moses, Shar Moses says Amy’s efforts have kept the Gem sparkling…
Two Philip residents are donating a Texas Style Barbecue with smoked pulled pork sandwiches, beans, chips and a drink for a free will offering. All funds raised will go toward replacing the projector. The fundraiser is tonight from 4:30 to eight-PM Mountain Time in front of the Gem Theater on Center Street in Philip. A GoFundMe account set up by the theater has raised just short of 2600-dollars so far.
