Over the weekend, the South Dakota Football Coaches Association announced its players of the year for its respective classes. Maguire Raske of the Pierre Governors was awarded the 11AA player of the year.
Over the course of the 2020 season, Raske was the go-to guy rushing for 1724 yards and scoring 26 times on the ground. He finished with 2350 all-purpose yards on the season with 31 touchdowns which was tops on the team by far. In the win against Spearfish during week five, when half of the team was out, Raske recorded 290 all-purpose yards in the 72-28 win over the Spartans, scoring seven times in the game.
Head Coach of the Pierre Governors, Steve Steele says it’s great to see another Gov win it…
Because Raske is a running back and winning the award, Steele equates the difficulty of doing it, to the Heisman trophy in college…
Steele says the biggest thing about Raske was his consistency…
The Governors won its fourth straight state championship against Brookings back in November.
