PIERRE — A four-door sedan is completely destroyed in a car fire Wednesday night in Pierre. Pierre Fire Chief Ian Paul says firefighters were dispatched around nine p.m. to the 500 block South Jefferson Avenue between Sioux and Dakota Avenues. The vehicle was halfway into an alley when the fire started. Paul says the driver got the car stuck and was trying to get the vehicle free when they heard a pop from the engine compartment. Shortly after the fire began. All of the vehicles occupants exited the car with out injury but the fire quickly spread to the passenger cabin of the vehicle where it became fully involved with fire. Firefighters were on scene for approximately 45 minutes. The temperature was one-below at the time and Paul says the cold didn’t impact firefighting efforts other than to try and keep firefighters warm. The Pierre Police Department provided traffic control during the incident.
